These are quick sketches done from art models at two different open draw sessions. Very grateful there there are people willing to do this, either nude or clothed. Drawing from life is a great exercise in getting the basics onto the page fast, even though these men could both pose for what seemed to me like an extraordinary amount of time. It’s also great for looking beyond your preconceptions and coming to grips with what you’re really seeing. In the case of pen & ink sketch, in particular (last image), which is more recent than the pencil sketches, I began to find the curves of this man’s body quite beautiful and enjoyed drawing them for their own sake. I could see myself incorporating those curves into other sketches that might belong to a different body, or an object, or an abstraction.
